Kingston moves ahead with proposed dog park

A place where a dog can be a dog is expected to open in Kingston soon as the town moves forward with plans to construct its first park where dogs will be free to run off leash.
Town Meeting voters approved spending about $25,000 toward construction of the park on property in the capped landfill, next to the town’s transfer station.
Town Manager Robert H. Fennessy Jr. said the town money will allow the group spearheading the effort to qualify for up to $223,000 through the Stanton Foundation of Cambridge, which was a fact that sweetened the deal for voters.
Fennessy said the park plans were a grass-roots effort by group of citizens who proposed and planned it.
Town Meeting in June also approved $3,000 for operating costs during the park’s first year. The fully-enclosed park is expected to be self-sufficient in the long term, Fennessey said.
