Wind turbine

Post by ROUTE 139er » Jan Mon 09, 2012 1:38 pm

Hey Kingston, My son and I passed by your new wind turbine as we were traveling up rt 3 last night. Just wanted to know if and when they may install lights on them so as a small plane doesn't fly into them in the dark? Maybe a good point to bring up with the installers. Thanks

Still not seeing lights, never mind the fact that 60 mph winds where barely turning it last week. Is it a monument or what?

Full operation of the Kingston wind turbine Independence may be just a couple of weeks away with its commissioning expected to proceed Thursday, March 15.

Last Friday, selectmen approved a pole placement agreement with Verizon to supply power to the 2-megawatt turbine that stands high atop the towns capped landfill off Route 3 at Exit 8.

I pointed it out to my wife when we were headed south to exit 7 and I said wait until you see it going north. It is ugly. I also like the one in scituat

. Are they more efficient than one that doesn't look like a transformer?

A while ago Birdges posted a few pictures of different types of wind-turbines. I thought they looked rather phallic. He liked them.

I believe that the brakes come on and they're brought to a stop when the wind exceeds 45 mph.

Interesting...I thought the blades actually pivot to adjust the amount of speed generated, such as letting out a sail on a sail boat.

A crack in one of the blade has delayed the startup of our newest wind turbine.

I wish they would put a color changing led light at the end of each blade....how nice it would look in the night.
